Welcome to my website! There are some very important changes taking place in my practice and I want you to know about them. Recently I have been invited to join the Love and Trauma Center of Denver as a principal researcher, clinician and trainer in the trauma treatment model that has been developed by Eric Wolterstorff, Ph.D., and Saj Razvi, LPC. The cutting edge treatment model is called Containment and Autonomic Regulation Therapy (CAR) and it incorporates mind and body therapy techniques to assist individuals to resolve trauma symptoms. This is a very exciting change for me as I have decided to leave the university as a full time clinical professor as of August and begin this endeavor on a full time basis. As I have for the past 17 years, I will continue to teach masters level counseling students as an adjunct instructor and I will continue to provide post-graduate clinical supervision for students who are actively working towards their licensure as a professional counselor.
I will be opening a new office on June 1, 2012. The location is:
Michael F. Barnes, Ph.D., LPC
Love and Trauma Center
8120 Sheridan Blvd., Ste. C-206
Westminster, CO 80003
About me:
I have been a counselor, clinical supervisor, consultant and counselor educator for 30 years. I work with individuals, couples, and families specializing in relationship issues and the impact of addiction, trauma, and life-threatening illness. I have significant experience working within these specialty areas and have helped people heal the anxiety, fear, anger, and pain that is so common. I understand that individuals, couples, and families work hard to address their problems and that even with their best efforts, their problems continue to remain present. I also understand that individual lives and relationships that were once experienced as satisfying and joyful can become painful and conflicted as a result of emotional and relationship problems, as well as unforeseen crises.
I have spent significant time helping people through the process of change and growth in therapy and I have come to understand that successful therapy is built on a foundation of hope, honesty, and the willingness to engage in difficult conversations. I believe that healing occurs when individuals understand and experience the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that maintain and ultimately resolve their problems.
Please take some time and review my site. As you can see I have included information regarding my fees, insurance information, and potential methods for payment. I also have included all of the paperwork that you will need to review and complete prior to arriving at your first session. I have also included information that you might find helpful.
Thanks for visiting!
